Marking an Anniversary
I recently realized that it was in July, 2017 that I started The Plain Text Project. How time flies …
Back in 2017, I’d pretty much burned out. I’d been furiously writing, blogging, and sending out a biweekly email letter. That on top of the Day JobTM and trying to live a life. Something had to give, so I pulled the plug on my various blogs and the letter.
As much as I was burned out, I did miss blogging. And there was an idea that had been pricking at the back of my brain for a while. So, The Plain Text Project was born.
In those days, I didn’t have an overarching plan for The Plain Text Project. I still don’t, to be honest. My goal was, and is, to share my love of working in plain text with a wider audience. As it turned out, what I was writing resonated with more than a few people. Thanks to that, this site became more than what I expected or thought it would become.
So, what’s to come in the next few months and years? The site will stay focused heavily on the person with few, if any, technical skills. The Plain Text Project will continue to be a curated guide, rather than a comprehensive resource, to things plain text. You can read more about the site’s aims in an article from early 2020. And I'll keep writing what I hope are interesting and useful articles about working in plain text and about the tools that can help you do that.
Other than that, I can’t tell you much else. Other than a rough, work-in-progress publishing schedule for 2021 I don't know what lies ahead — as I mentioned a couple of paragraphs ago, I don’t have an overarching plan for The Plain Text Project. I hope you stick around to find out what’s going to happen.
